The Moon and Her Cycles

Today marks July's Full Moon - Happy Blessing Moon!

The power of the moon is unmatched – controlling the tides, altering our own energies, influencing the feminine cycle. Long ago, the term ‘lunatic’ was coined to describe craziness caused by the moon. Today, doctors and nurses confirm that hospitals see more patients underneath the full moon. No one denies its effect, but few people take the time to study its influence. In honor of the blessing moon, let’s dig a little deeper into just how magnificent the moon is – so that you may live in alignment with her cycle.

The lunar cycle begins with the dark moon, or new moon. The new moon provides new beginnings, an opportunity to rest, and the means of connecting with your shadow self. Let this phase inspire you to start fresh, set a new intention, and do things differently this time. Maybe begin a new project or cleanse your space.

Just after is the waxing crescent moon. This phase encourages growth, self care, and confidence. This is a time to focus on your goals and see the potential that lies ahead. The moon is only a sliver here, leaving you with endless possibilities. This is another great time to start a new project or hobby – the future is yours to determine.

The first quarter phase is next, the halfway point to reaching the full moon. It may provide a bump in the road of sorts. You may feel higher energy at this point of the month – this is a good time to push through any obstacles that may be preventing you from reaching your goals. The first quarter moon acts as a metaphorical bridge, encouraging you to keep going. During this time, remind yourself: trust the process.

Next is the waxing gibbous. Nearing the full moon, this is a great time to fine-tune and refine. Determine what things in your life most align with your intentions and focus on them. Reflect on the lessons you’ve learned within this cycle and adjust your goals as needed.

The full moon is probably the most celebrated phase of the moon. Here, the moon is fully illuminated – therefore, some things may come to light. Emotions can feel heightened during this phase, which is scary, but empowering. Embrace the newfound clarity of your desires. Take this time to really get in tune with your body and self. The light of the full moon is the perfect opportunity to cleanse, charge, and manifest. The energy is strong here – the outcomes will be too.

It is important to note that each full moon has slightly different energy and associations. July’s full moon is known by many different names: The Buck moon, the Blessing moon, the Meadow moon, the Thunder moon, etc. No matter what you call it, July’s moon is especially good for growth, gratitude, and power, making it the perfect time to make these changes and start to become aware of the way the moon affects you. This full moon, make practical steps towards your goals to really ground them in reality. You may feel emotional during this time but do your best to be present and without fear of the future — you already know exactly where you are meant to be. Make it happen.

Following the full moon comes the waning gibbous moon. This is a wonderful time to practice extra gratitude for the light in your life, and to let go of the things that feel dark. The moon may be heading towards darker phases but that does not mean you have to. Release anything that does not serve you – people, habits, ideas, etc. It will leave you feeling even more thankful in the end.

Next, the third quarter moon is best used as a period of forgiveness. As you prepare for the new moon approaching, release any burdens looming over your head – and be kind to yourself during this process. Cleansing and Forgiveness towards yourself is just as important.

Finally, the waning crescent moon allows you a time of rest. Take a moment to breathe here, and nurture your body and soul. New opportunities will be approaching soon, but for now, just relax.
